Filip Loncar, Gianluca Salza, Bryan Merlos found the back of the net before the first half was over and Christopher Beckett followed with the fourth at the 70 minute mark. Lindenhurst slipped one in with 10 mins left but the damage was done. NY Croatia easily move on to Round #2 of the State Cup.
Next the boys will take on NYFC Iliria Sunday Oct. 25th at a TBD time and place.
Midfielder Ryan Doran hit a header into the back upper 90 ten minutes into the first half off of corner service by Richie Heredia. Midfielder Danny Cadena put away two strong fought break aways and Defenseman Kemal Brkanovic powered the fourth goal in all before the half. Johnny Drazic played well in net - blocking some strong chances and making diving saves. Mr Dennehy's bunkered in the second half to prevent their deficit from falling any further - but weren't able to make a difference in the outcome. Three wins in as many weeks for Croatia.
The boys will take on Lindenhurst FC next Sunday in Round 1 of the State Cup at a TBD time and location.
Forward Edgar Merlos-Castenada and defender Filip Loncar each scored 2 goals at this past Sunday's match on Randall's Island versus a hard hitting Ridgewood Romac SC side. Ridgewood scored first and NY Croatia via Loncar came back to tie. Ridgewood scored their second but before the end of the half and Merlos-Castenada put a second in to bring it back to even. In the second half a red card against a motivated NY Croatia was not enough to take them down and moments later Loncar scored his second to go up 3-2 and Merlos-Castenada put away the fourth to seal the deal. A good win for the team.
Back at it this coming Sunday on Randall's Island at 1 p.m., Field #51 against Mr Dennehey's FC.
